A Conversation with Paul Ford, the Now-Former Web Editor of Harper’s Magazine - The Awl
Choire: What is your favorite Alex Chilton video, song or tale?
Paul: My favorite tale is from Our Band Could Be Your Life, when he shut down Gibby Haynes’s rampage through the Netherlands:
Moments later a man entered the dressing room and asked if he could borrow a guitar. “BORROW A GUITAR??!!!...

I’m really interested to see if this brings back giant Winsor McCay/Chris Ware style comics. One big weekly spread for a nominal fee. I think that’s the secret to paid digital content. Fixing people’s expectations to a regular schedule: Predictable quality.
good hair
My favorite part of Chris Rock’s black hair doc was when he fist bumps a little nine year girl and tells her to stay off the pipe. This is such a great all purpose greeting/goodbye it makes “aloha” look like poop. It’s just really good advice for everyone.

Excerpt:
“The relentless dialogue of musical exploration begins with the bold spoken-word statement of ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rumble,’ a brash invitation to sheer musical chaos. Then just as this fleeting cry fades into the recesses of the inner ear, the echoing incantation ‘Get Ready For This’ by 2 Unlimited signals the unrelenting philosopho-poetic examination of the mid-nineties...
